Meet Prof. Sreevidya Subramanyam Empowering Minds: An Educator’s Journey of Passion, Resilience, and Impact

Blog

1. What inspired you to become an educator?
I have always been deeply drawn to the transformative power of education. Witnessing how
knowledge empowers individuals and shapes their futures is incredibly inspiring. My journey
in education is rooted in my desire to provide support and guidance to students who face
challenges, just as I once did. Teaching is not just a profession; it is a responsibility, and I take
immense pride in the role I play in shaping young minds.

2. How did you stay committed despite doubts about teaching as a career?
Like many first-year teachers, I experienced moments of self-doubt. Teaching is a demanding
profession, regardless of the level or subject. However, my commitment was reinforced by
focusing on my students’ progress, celebrating small victories, and reminding myself of the
lasting impact I could have. Over time, I realized that my true calling lies in education. Helping
others learn and grow gives me immense satisfaction, and that sense of purpose keeps me going.

3. What was a defining moment in your journey?
One of the most defining moments in my career was mentoring students who initially struggled
with their subjects. With consistent effort and encouragement, they not only gained
confidence but also excelled in their exams. Seeing their transformation—watching them go
from struggling to mastering concepts—was incredibly rewarding. That experience reaffirmed
my passion for teaching and the profound difference an educator can make.

4. What challenges did you face after a career break?
Returning after a career break comes with its own set of challenges, the most significant being
regaining confidence and staying updated with evolving teaching methodologies and
technology. I tackled this by actively engaging in professional development programs,
networking with fellow educators, and leveraging the skills and knowledge I had accumulated
over the years. It was a journey of continuous learning and adaptation, which ultimately
strengthened my capabilities as an educator.

5. How did you overcome rejection and setbacks? Was there a moment you wanted to give
up? What kept you going?
Setbacks are a part of any journey, but I view them as learning opportunities. There were
moments of discouragement, times when challenges seemed overwhelming. However, my
passion for education and the knowledge that I was making a difference in my students’ lives
kept me moving forward. I found strength in small achievements and the encouragement of
those who believed in me. Every challenge became a stepping stone toward becoming a better
educator.

6. Can you share a memorable mentorship success story?
One of the most fulfilling experiences in my career was mentoring a student struggling with
low self-esteem and academic performance. By fostering a supportive learning environment,
setting achievable goals, and providing encouragement, I witnessed a remarkable
transformation in their confidence and capabilities.
A particularly inspiring moment in my journey occurred during a corporate training session on
emotional regulation. I created a safe space where participants felt empowered to develop
coping mechanisms for their challenges. One participant independently formulated a plan to
use mindful accounting—a technique we had discussed—to manage stress and emotional
well-being. Seeing them internalize and apply the strategies in their own lives validated my
belief in creating learner-centric environments where individuals thrive.

7. What is the biggest challenge students face today?
Students today face the challenge of navigating an increasingly complex and fast-changing
world while also seeking validation, support, and encouragement. In this ever-evolving
landscape, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment is crucial—one where
students feel heard, valued, and motivated to reach their full potential.

8. How can women regain confidence and step into leadership?
Women can regain confidence and step into leadership by recognizing their inherent strengths,
seizing opportunities for growth, and surrounding themselves with mentors and role models.
It is essential to challenge self-doubt, embrace new challenges, and celebrate achievements—
both big and small. Leadership is not about waiting for opportunities; it’s about creating them.

9. How do you feel about winning prestigious awards?
Receiving these prestigious awards is both humbling and inspiring. Each recognition reinforces
my commitment to education, mentorship, and nation-building. I am deeply grateful to Diva
Planet Magazine and Ms. Aarti for honoring me with the Award of Excellence in Education and
Soft Skill Training 2024 and the Nation’s Icon: Best Multifaceted Leader Award 2024. My
sincere appreciation also goes to the Early Years Educators Summit & Awards 2024 for the
Education Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 award and SSB Solutions for the Ujwala Vikasitha
Bharat Nirmaana Karya Yodha award, which holds special significance as a recognition of my
contribution to India’s development through education and training.
Equally meaningful are the institutional recognitions I have received, including the ‘BEST
Teacher’ award from Gupta College, the ‘Most Desirable External Faculty’ rating by IDBI Bank
trainees, and the ‘Best Lecturer’ title for three consecutive years at APS Engineering and KC
College of Management and Science. These accolades are not just personal milestones but a
reflection of the trust placed in my work.
They strengthen my resolve to innovate, inspire, and create impactful learning experiences,
ensuring education remains a transformative force for future generations.

10. What are your future goals in education and mentorship?
My future goals revolve around contributing to the nation’s progress through education. I am
committed to designing and implementing training programs that empower both educators
and students, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. I strongly believe in giving back to India
and making a meaningful impact on future generations by equipping them with the
knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed.
